Twelve Months at Hurricane Ridge Is Done – But

Pardon me as I pat myself on my back. Twelve Months at Hurricane Ridge is done! Yay! Huh? Oh.

Skip all the pesky details. The book is done! I have a copy. And yet, lulu.com shows it as Pending. Somewhere in there are two switches that have to be flipped. Their AI produced pages of instructions. They probably make sense. It’s ~ 9:30PM. I’m tired. And I’m busy. I might get to it on Thursday. That’s hard to describe to an AI. Oh for the days when humans helped humans.

But, I’m done! Yay!

The proof copy looks fine. It took about two weeks to get here. The printing probably took minutes. The binding, probably not much more. The shipping and delivery took far longer. Go figure. But that’s the reality of self-publishing. Welcome to the waits.

This wait was because I wanted a proof, a copy printed early to check for mistakes. The digital proofs were two Yes and one No. The only way to be certain was to ask for a proof copy, a physical print so I could check for errors. The Yes won. No errors, at least no glaring errors. It looks better than I expected. I started spreading the word.

Maybe I celebrated too soon. In a few months time, any delay may seem short. In the meantime, even though the AI makes it sound easy, any set of instructions more than a few steps long provide more than a few opportunities to induce yet more errors. Stay tuned. Tomorrow, I plan to drive to Kalaloch, the site of the next book. Every month, gotta get there. Start early, just to make sure.

So, I am still celebrating! Twelve Months at Hurricane Ridge is done! But I have to apologize to anyone searching for a link. I can fix this. The AI told me so.
