Sharing Posts To Social Media – April 2025

(PS This is a test of some changes – they call them improvements – to WordPress’ process. Pardon any subsequent glitches.)

Someday I may have a FAQ, a Frequently Asked Questions list. I’m over 65. There are plenty of topics that inspire plenty of questions, and there have been enough decades involved to give some questions more time to be asked more frequently than others. (BTW I find it sad and fascinating when someone generates a FAQ list based on what they want to say rather than based on what they’ve been asked. Check your acronyms!) This week I was asked about how I share what I write, particularly on social media. And, ah ha!, I found a way to record what I do. Describing it never seems to be effective enough often enough. The person that asked probably figured it out, but for the next person, here’s a link to what I do after hitting Publish.

Some background
I am not an evangelist for social media. I am, however, a frequent user. I’ve been on Facebook since it showed up outside academic walls. The same is true for a few other social media sites. To me, social media is a tool. It is not advertising. It is media, and a social one. Sure, you can treat it as advertising, and the sites are happy to sell you advertising services, but the users are readers online socializing. Be social. I’ve described more of this in a post from early in 2025. (BTW Dates are important because sites are temporary. Despite the seeming intransigence of Facebook, someday something will supplant it. Don’t rely on only one site. Diversify and backup your critical content.)

Social Media Ah And Ugh

My process tends to produce a draft in about an hour. I’m busy enough that I concentrate on quantity over quality. That’s simply a pragmatic choice for me and for now. A few extra minutes can mean something that collects dust on a digital shelf actually gets noticed.

Sharing to social media isn’t everything. Subscribers already receive the link and possibly the content. A long time from now in internet timing, someone may find what I wrote because it showed up in a search. Sharing to social media is one way I reach people who aren’t subscribers but who do follow me on social media. Sharing fills a niche. It isn’t everything, but it can be a very useful thing.

I may go into that later, but for now, to those who’ve asked the question, or wanted to, or didn’t realize they wanted to, hopefully this will relieve some of the mystery of a tool that is customizable and hopefully useful.

Let’s see if adding a video of me demonstrating how I do it works.
Drumroll, please.
